The bullring of Estepona

border Estepona, the bullfight border

Designed by architect Juan Mora Urbano and opened in 1972, this bullring's asymmetrical design makes it unlike any other bullring in the world. It has been host to many world class bullfighting events. It is also used on special occasions for all kinds of musical concerts and events.

The museum of Estepona is also in the bullring.

Bullfighting museum
The Antonio Ordóñez Bullfighting Museum is named after the great Malaga-born bullfighter who provided the initial financial backing for Estepona's bullring.
His grandson, who is also a famous bullfighter, Francisco Rivera Ordóñez, inaugurated the museum. This museum shows all kinds of objects related to the art of bullfighting, including photographs from bullfighting moments that have gone down in history, brands and ribbons from Spanish and Portuguese breeders, a full collection of bullfighting posters and several different bullfighting costumes donated by some of Spain's most renowned bullfighters.

Municipal Palaentology Museum
This museum opened in December 2000 with the mission of showcasing the wealth of fossils from the Pliocene (approximately 4 million years old) found in the Estepona area, with exhibits designed for both scientists and the general public. The exhibit includes over 2.000 fossils of some 600 species from the Pliocene in Estepona, including plants, vertebrates, braquiopods, bryozoans, crustaceans, corals, echinoderms and molluscs. The museum boasts the largest collection of Pliocene fossils from a single location in all of Europe, and the collection is constantly growing, thanks to the museum's ongoing research and recovery projects.

The Corominas Megalithic Necropolis Museum
Excavations in Estepona have revealed the remains of a megalithic necropolis dating back to some 5.000 years ago. Some of the most interesting remains include five common tombs built with giant slabs of rock, which are preserved in excellent condition. Human remains of several dozen individuals were found inside these dolmens alongside ceramic jars, stone tools, arrowheads, axes and personal adornments including necklaces with beads made of semi-precious stones and perforated seashells.

Ethnographical Museum
This museum's aim is to exhibit and celebrate the lifestyle, customs, economy and other aspects of everyday life in Estepona over the centuries. The museum's exhibits are divided into halls, each with a different theme, providing visitors with organized information and revealing how everyday implements were used in the past.
